Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about how FILE SHIPPER works, how it secures your files, and what each plan includes.

What it is, and the problem it solves

What is FILE SHIPPER?

FILE SHIPPER is a cloud-based, B2B large file transfer service for companies that need to send oversized data securely — up to 100GB per file on the Business plan — while keeping their own branding on the page recipients see. Unlike generic file-sharing tools, it removes the need for the outdated "PPAP" practice of emailing a password-protected zip and then its password over the same channel, replacing it with one-time passcode verification.

How does FILE SHIPPER solve the "PPAP" problem in business email?

Japanese business practice has long relied on sending a password-protected zip file, then the password in a separate email — a habit known as PPAP. Because both travel the same route, security practitioners consider it ineffective against interception. FILE SHIPPER replaces it with a secure download link where the recipient must authenticate using a one-time passcode (OTP) sent to their own verified email address, so only the intended recipient can open the file. Knowing the link is never enough on its own.

What recipients experience

Do recipients need to register an account to download files?

No — recipients never need an account. The sender generates a secure link and sends it. The recipient opens the link, enters their own email address, receives a one-time authentication code, and downloads immediately. No password to set, no account to create.

What happens if I send a file to the wrong person by mistake?

You can revoke access instantly at any time with one-click share revocation. If you catch the mistake straight after sending, revoking the link before the recipient passes authentication stops the download from ever happening. Download history also lets you see exactly when a file was accessed, and by whom.

Security and compliance

Are uploaded files scanned for viruses?

Yes. Every uploaded file goes through a mandatory virus scan before it can be distributed. If a threat or malware is detected, the file is quarantined immediately and cannot be downloaded. This applies on every plan, including Free.

How is user data and privacy protected?

FILE SHIPPER protects privacy through several architectural safeguards:

  • Encryption: personal information such as email addresses is encrypted with AES-256-GCM.
  • Domestic key management: encryption keys are held in the key-management service of a Japanese provider (Sakura Internet), keeping them inside Japanese jurisdiction.
  • No plaintext in logs: email matching uses a one-way index, so no plaintext personal data is left in system logs or caches.
  • Automatic deletion: files expire and are deleted automatically — 24 hours on Free, up to 7 days on Business.

Branding and plans

Can I display my company logo and custom subdomain on download pages?

Yes, from the Business plan (¥980/month, excluding tax) upward. You can replace the generic download screen with your own subdomain, company name, and logo — so clients never land on an anonymous, ad-covered page, and the download page itself becomes a professional extension of your brand.
